Backgammon game is an ancient game with a long history all over the world. This game is so popular in many Countries. I love playing backgammon with my friends so I thought it would be wonderful to share some hints with another people who love to play backgammon.

How to play Chouette
Chouette is backgammon for 3 or more players (5 should be the limit), and the game itself is played in exactly the same way as ordinary Backgammon.

What Is Blot Boxes

Each player throws a die and the player throwing highest is said to be “in the box “and plays against the thrower of the second highest, who is known as the “Active” or “Playing” “Opponent.” The others become the partners of the latter, staking the same amount and having the same interest in the game. Players succeed to a “box” in turn according to the throw of the dice, i.e., when the player in the box loses, he becomes last in the string, the Playing Opponent takes his place, and the third highest thrower becomes the Playing Opponent, and so on.

The Allies of the Playing Opponent may offer suggestions in regard to play, but the actual player have the final decision, and his play is binding on the Allies. None of the latter, however, is obliged to accept a double and any who should decide to withdraw on a double being offered is at liberty to do so on handing the Playing Opponent the stake in being at the time. If the player “in the box” wins, this goes to him with the other stakes; if he loses, his remaining adversaries share the profit.

In Chouette the player “in the box” risks losing the agreed stake to as many players as there are against him, but as he can only lose once, and wins from, all when he wins, he is not in a bad position.

Hint on Play
Make points wherever possible, especially in or near your Inner Table.
Avoid leaving blots, especially in such positions where they may be easily hit, though leaving them early in the game, when five out of the six points in the adversary’s table are still open, is not serious. However, remember that occasionally it is a distinct advantage to be hit, for it gives you an opportunity of taking up some of your opponent’s men.

If your opponent has gained an early advantage and is rapidly approaching his Inner Table, hang back, allow men to be hit; wherever possible, re-enter on a blot, and block points on opponent’s Inner Table. Block your Bar-point and your own and opponent’s 5-point as long as necessary, for this does much to prevent the escape of your opponent’s two men in your Inner Table; also block as many points as you can in opponent’s Inner Table.
